This is really starting to piss me off! This moral equivocation. Heck, it's not even equivocation - it's a one-sided, no-contest, you win - I give up, "morality".
What am I talking about?
I'm talking about the fact that the moral outrage in this country is centered on some lame-brained pastor who wants to burn the Koran and NOT on the immediate threats of violence emanating from the Muslim world in response to that.
Let's see here: One side wants to burn a book as a statement of protest, the other side wants to behead, murder and torture people as a statement of protest. Hmm... It's so hard to pick a side here.
Why is there no outrage over the fact that there is a whole group of people on this planet who are perfectly willing to kill in defense of their religion?
And nothing burns me more than the "recruitment tool" argument. "If this guy burns a Koran, the terrorists will use that as a recruitment tool - so he better not!"
You want to talk about recruitment tools? What about Hollywood? What about all the nasty sex and irreverent living depicted in Hollywood movies? You don't think THAT's a recruitment tool for "holy" warriors? Yet I don't see the State Department, the Defense Secretary and the President weighing in to try to stop Hollywood. Do you?
Some people reading this will probably call me an Islamophobe. And they're right. I AM scared of Islamists, but only because they are Christianophobes, Jewophobes, Femaphobes, Homophobes, Diversityophobes, Blue-Jean-ophobes, Free-Speach-ophobes, Girls-going-to-school-ophobes, basically Anything-not-Islamic-ophobes.
Yeah, people like that scare me.
