So what exactly is this "Muslim world" we've been hearing so much about lately? And where is it? Is there some parallel universe where only Muslims exist?
Or, are they talking about the countries---like Saudi Arabia---where all other religions are essentially outlawed? Is that the Muslim world? Is it the world where the Bible and every other holy book (except the Koran) is banned? Where the burning of those books is encouraged? Where the burning of churches, synagogues and temples (if they are allowed to exist at all) is winked at? Is it the world where Buddhist shrines are blown up with tanks? The world where the punishment for leaving Islam is death? Is that it? Is it the world where the male of the species has all the rights and females are second class citizens? Is that the Muslim world? The world where religious police go around beating people for not being religious enough? Where only women can commit adultery (and be stoned to death for it)? Is that the Muslim world?
If that's the case, then I want no part of it.
If my understanding of geography is correct however, there is only one world. And, again if my understanding is correct, that would mean that there is no such thing as a "Muslim world". Nor is there a "Christian world", or a "Buddhist world", or an "Atheist world" or any other type of "world" we might posit based on some subset of humanity. There is only this world - a world in which the Muslim is just a small part of the whole. A world in which the term "human" defines us. A world where we are all supposed to be equal - male and female.
If that's the case, then why do we let the pundits continue to warn us about "what the Muslim world thinks" or "how the Muslim world will react"? Isn't it time for the Muslims (and their liberal sympathizers) to realize they are part of this world and that they don't own it - it belongs to everyone who shares it.
So stop brow-beating us with this "Muslim world" crap and learn to live in the real world with the rest of us!
